BATON ROUGE — Four members of the LSU Lady Tiger sofball team were chosen as Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-Americans as announced by the NFCA office on Wednesday evening.
Senior third baseman Ashlee Ducote became the first two-time first team All-American in school history. Joining her on the first team is junior second baseman Stephanie Hastings. Sophomore pitcher Britni Sneed was named to the second team while senior shortstop Tara Asbill earned third team honors.
“I am very proud of each of these girls, as well as my entire team,” said head coach Glenn Moore. “These awards credit the entire team’s hard work and dedication to be the best. It also shows the talent and love for the game these four ladies have.”
This season, Ducote became the first LSU softball player to be named Southeastern Conference Player of the Year. She was also named first team All-SEC and first team All-South Region. She was drafted by the Akron Racers and will play professionally in Ohio this summer. Ducote set an LSU single season record for hits with 91 this season en route to being the first Lady Tiger to hit over .400 for a season, finishing with an average of .431. She also led the team with 59 runs, 91 hits, 14 doubles, eight triples and 63 RBI.
Hastings was named to the first team All-SEC for the second time in her career. She was second on the team with 82 hits and a batting average of .361. With 18 sacrifice hits and 3 sacrifice flys, she led the team in both categories. Hastings only struck out six times in 227 at bats this season. She was named to the SEC All-Tournament team and the NCAA All- Regional Team.
Sneed finished the season with a 1.14 ERA, while striking out 278 batters in 239.1 innings, both school records. She also set an LSU single-season win record with her 27-7 overall record. She pitched two no-hitters this season, one against Ole Miss and the second against Louisiana Tech.
Asbill completed her senior season with a batting average of .344. She set school records for the most home runs in a season with 12 and for a career with 27. Asbill was one of only two players in the leauge to be selected first team All-SEC for four consecutive years. She was also named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the third consecutive year, and the GTE CoSIDa Academic All-District for the second.
With the four All-Americans, LSU tied with No. 1 Washington and No. 2 Arizona.
