AUBURN, Ala. — Brad Cresse went 5-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI to lead LSU past Auburn, 18-11, Friday night in game one of the three-game series.
The LSU Tigers (20-9, 6-3 SEC) picked up a season-high 23 hits to score a season-high 18 runs despite leading 17 men on base.
Hunter Gomez pitched five innings in relief of starter Brian Tallet, who struggled with control and walked seven batters.
Gomez improved to 4-0 on the season.
Auburn broke out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, however LSU struck back in the top of the second with six runs and never trailed again.
Cresse, who hit a pair of two-run home runs, tied the LSU record for hits in a game and reached base six times in six plate appearance. He added three singles and a walk.
