Gomez Leads LSU to 6-4 Victory Over Alabama

Gomez, Home Runs Beat SLU, 11-4

HAMMOND, La. — Starting pitcher Hunter Gomez pitched seven quality innings and LSU hit four home runs on its way to a 11-4 win over in-state rival Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday night at Alumni Field in Hammond, La.

Weylin Guidry came in for 1 2/3, allowing one run in the final two innings. Brian Tallet pitched the final out for LSU.

LSU won its 16th-straight game over the Lions.

LSU second baseman Mike Fontenot hit a two-run home run in the seventh and a solo shot in the ninth to seal the win. It was his first two-home run game as a Tiger.

The Tigers hit a season-high four home runs in the victory.

Brad Cresse reached base all six times he appeared at the plate. To go along with one of LSU’s four four-baggers, Cresse also hit two singles, walked twice and was hit by a pitch.

Third baseman Blair Barbier had five hits, matching the LSU single-game record for hits, which has been duplicated 23 times including three times this season.

The Tigers return to action this weekend for a three-game series against Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn. The games will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
