Baseball Avoids Sweep, Beats Dawgs, 13-3

BATON ROUGE, La.– LSU used a 14-hit attack to take a 13-3 win over Georgia in the finale of a three-game Southeastern Conference series Sunday at Alex Box Stadium.

The Tigers (12-8, 1-2) are at Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday night at 6:30, then travel to Nashville next weekend for a three-game SEC set with Vanderbilt.

LSU jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three innings. The Tigers got on the board in the second on Ryan Jorgensen’s sacrifice fly, then extended the pad to 3-0 on Ray Wright’s two-run homer.

Georgia (12-4, 2-1) got on the board in the top of the third on Adam Swann’s home run, but the Tigers answered with three more in the bottom of the frame on Brad Hawpe’s RBI double, a sac fly by Blair Barbier and a wild pitch that plated Hawpe.

Hawpe had two doubles, increasing his season total to 13, as the Tigers had six two-baggers and eight extra-base hits.

LSU reliever Billy Brian pitched 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits and striking out four to pick up his first save. Starter Ben Saxon pitched five-plus innings to improve to 2-0.
