Divers Travel to NCAA Regionals

AUBURN, Ala. — Six LSU divers will be among the 80 student athletes from across the South competing in the NCAA Zone “B” Diving Regionals this weekend at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center in Auburn, Ala.

“We’re really excited about this weekend,” said LSU diving coach Scott Reich. “Each one of our divers is having a wonderful season so far, and I believe that they can keep it up this weekend.”

The 80 divers taking part in the NCAA Regional competition are aiming to qualify for the NCAA National Championships, to be held later this month.

Representing LSU in the NCAA Diving Regionals will be junior Ashley Culpepper, senior Gretchen Mury, sophomore Jamie Watkins, sophomore Holly Winters, junior Erik Petursson, and junior Corey Fox.

“This is a great opportunity for our divers,” Reich said. “We have six excellent young men and women representing LSU and this competition is a good place for them to show off their talent.”

The schedule for this weekend is as follows. On Friday, the men’s 1-meter springboard competition will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women’s 3-meter springboard competition at 5 p.m.

On Saturday, the women’s 1-meter and men’s 3-meter springboard competitions will be held simultaneously at 10:30 a.m. The men’s platform competition will begin at 3 p.m., followed by the women’s platform event at 6 p.m.

Qualifiers from this weekend’s competition will advance to the NCAA Championships. The women’s championships will be held in Indianapolis, Ind., March 16-18, while the men’s national meet will be held in Minneapolis, Minn., March 23-25. The regional event held here in Auburn, Ala., is one of six across the nation this weekend.
