BATON ROUGE — Brad Hawpe hit two doubles and drove in three Tigers and Blair Barbier eluded three Sun Devils in a run down to eventually score the winning run as LSU took game two from Arizon State, 6-5, Saturday afternoon in Baton Rouge.
Barbier, who was caught sneaking off second base by Arizona State pitcher Luke Field, advanced to third after avoiding a tag by third baseman Jeff Phelps during the run down. Two batters later, Cedrick Harris hit a sacrifice fly to center field, giving LSU the go-ahead run.
LSU remained undefeated at 6-0 while Arizona State fell to 11-4. LSU won game won of the series, 8-4, and the two teams will play game three Sunday at 1 p.m.
Tiger starting pitcher Bo Pettit was knocked out of the game in the second inning after giving up three runs on six hits while walking three.
However, senior Ben Saxon came in to pitch six innings of relief and pick up the win. Weylin Guidry got the final out in the eighth and pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his second consecutive save.
