BATON ROUGE — Eight LSU men’s tennis players are representing the tennis team at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships this weekend at the University of Alabama.
“This is a good chance for us to prepare for the National Indoor Team Championships in February,” said Brown. “We don’t get to face much tough competition indoors, so this weekend should help us very much.”
Leading the way for the Tigers are seniors Tom Hand and Michal Chmela. Hand is the No. 2 seed and will face George Dubrara of Tennessee in the first round.
Chmela is the third-seed in the draw and meets Tennessee’s Mark Fitzpatrick in the first round. Fellow senior Ed Rubin will square off with Johan Grunditz of Kentucky.
Transfer Ajay Ramaswami will be seeing his first SEC action this weekend when he goes up against Brian Isern of Alabama.
Sophomores Dan Kiernan, Anthony Mateljan and Jesse Smatt will also be in Tuscaloosa. Kiernan meets Chris McDonald of Mississippi State. Mateljan will play Ole Miss’ Vikrant Chadha while Smatt faces Georgia’s Travis Parrott.
“Hopefully our players will be able to get some wins and gain some confidence against SEC opponents. This will be a good measuring stick for where we stand in the league,” said Brown.
