SUNRIVER, Ore. — LSU’s 12th-ranked women’s golf team, behind an opening round 3-over par 75 from Meredith Duncan, stands in a three-way tie for 12th place after the opening round of the NCAA Fall Preview at the Crosswater Club in Sunriver, Oregon.
The tournament, which features all 10 teams ranked in the top 10 Collegiate Golf Foundation MasterCard poll, continues with 18 holes on Tuesday followed by the final 18 holes on Wednesday. A total of 21 teams are entered in the event. Of the 21 teams, all but Oregon and Oregon State are ranked in the top 25.
Top-ranked Duke fired a 6-over par 294 for the first round lead, while fourth-ranked Southern California is two strokes back at 296. Arizona, ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll, is third at 299, while Arizona State is next at 300. Stanford rounds out the top five at 305.
Rounding out the top 10 are UCLA at sixth place with 306, followed by Oregon at 308, Georgia at 309, Oregon State at 310 and Pepperdine and Texas tied for 10th at 312. LSU is tied with Auburn and San Jose State in 12th place. TCU is 15th at 317, followed by Tulsa at 318, New Mexico State at 320, Washington at 321, Ohio State and South Carolina at 322 and Furman at 328.
Individually, Arizona State’s Miriam Nagl and Arizona’s Jenna Daniels both fired rounds of 2-under par 70 to lead the individual tournament. LSU’s Duncan’s first-round score of 75 featured a 1-under 35 on the front nine. However, she slumped to a 4-over 40 on the back to stand five shots off the pace.
LSU junior Lisette Lee fired a 6-over to stand in a tie for 41st-place, while Katy Wilkinson was a shot back at 7-over 79 to stand in a tie for 55th place. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Tigers were a pair of freshmen in Rebecca Barrow and Erin Sarver, both of which are playing in their first collegiate competition. Barrow stands in a tie for 82nd place at a 10-over 82, while Sarver is in 103rd place at 16-over 88.
