Football’s LeBlanc Declared Ineligible

BATON ROUGE – LSU starting strong safety Clarence LeBlanc has been declared ineligible by LSU due to an allegation of inappropriate contact with a sports agent, LSU athletic director Joe Dean and head coach Gerry DiNardo announced on Wednesday.

The matter was discovered in an investigation that also resulted in the ineligibility of starting cornerback Mark Roman on October 21. The matter involves an alleged verbal arrangement for a sports agent to provide benefits to LeBlanc.

LeBlanc has been declared ineligible for competition until the investigation into the matter has been completed.

“We are honoring our commitment to run a clean program and to keep sports agents away from our athletes,” Dean said. “We do not anticipate anyfurther action against other athletes, but we will take action if necessary.”

“Once again I will reiterate my position: this is an area of no tolerance,” DiNardo said. “It is not fair to our school and all it represents for these things to take place. It won’t be a part of this program.”

No further comment will be made until the investigation is complete.
