BATON ROUGE- LSU gymnastics head coach D-D Breaux filled the vacancy in her coaching staff left by the departed Jeff Thompson Tuesday, announcing the hiring of long-time Southeastern Conference assistant Bob Moore.

Moore joins the LSU coaching staff after a six-year stint at the University of Florida where he was the program’s top assistant. To his credit, Moore coached two national champions on the vault while at Florida in addition to numerous All-Americans and SEC champions.

“Bob will provide us with experience at the highest level, not only within the SEC, but the NCAA,” said Breaux. “Bringing Bob in is not like bringing an outsider in. He knows exactly how tough this conference is and what it will take to take a program like ours that is an established top-10 team and bring it to the next level.”

LSU is Moore’s third stop within the SEC, as the 2000 season will be his 12th within the league. Prior to his tenure at Florida, the Birmingham, Ala., native spent five seasons as an assistant at Auburn.

In addition to strengthening the Tigers on the vault and with their uneven bar routines, Breaux has indicated that Moore will play a significant role with LSU’s Bengal Gymnastics program, a highly successful youth age group program.

“I’m very excited to be here and to be part of a consistently successful program such as LSU,” said Moore. “D-D and (assistant coach) Larissa (Libby) bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to this sport and I’m looking forward to coming in and contributing to what they’ve already started here in any way possible.”

Moore began his coaching career at Jefferson State Junior College (Ala.) in 1977 and spent five years as an assistant on a staff that produced two national champion teams during his tenure.

Moore replaces Jeff Thompson who accepted the head coaching position with Auburn in May.
