TULSA, Okla. — The LSU women’s golf team remained in 10th place as the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Tournament’s final round was wiped away due to late afternoon thunderstorms over the Tulsa Country Club.
Much of the fourth round was already completed when severe thunderstorms moved through the Tulsa area with severe weather warnings and hail in the area when the event was halted at 3:40 p.m. After a two-hour delay, officials finally decided to call the event and go back to the 54-hole totals.
Duke ends up winning the event wire-to-wire with a score of 43-over par 895 for 54-holes. However, the Duke lead was down to just one stroke over Arizona State as the Blue Devils were at 51-over par at the time of the postponement.
LSU had a good final round going, but was still going to remain in 10th place, where they were after 36 holes. They were 14-over par for the round at the time of the postponement and finish the 54 holes at 71-over par 923.
It marks the fourth-straight top-10 finish for LSU when it has appeared in the Division I championships (1986, 1996, 1998, 1999).
Mereidth Duncan finished as the top LSU golfer, as the Shreveport freshman finishes in a tie for 24th place at 229, 16-over par. Lisette Lee finished in a tie for 35th (231), Katy Wilkinson a tie for 43rd (232), Leslie McClurg a tie for 57th (236) and Tina Howard tied for 63rd (237).
“I am very pleased with our team’s performance this year,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “This has been a great experience for our team and even though we didn’t get the chance to move up on the final round, I’m very pleased with how this team performed in the spring and how this team pulled together to make the Championships for the second straight year.”
