Volleyball Adds Four During Signing Period

BATON ROUGE – In the midst of the 2019 season, LSU head volleyball coach Fran Flory and the Tigers announced the additions of four during the 2019 Signing Day Period. The class will be freshman in the fall of 2020.

The Tigers add Paige Flickinger (Roanoke, Texas), Dylan Maberry (Magnolia, Texas), Madeline Telford (Atlanta, Georgia) and Alia Williams (Humble, Texas).

“We are excited to add this class to our program,” said Flory.  “Each player brings something special that will elevate our team and culture.  Their experiences winning on the highest level in high school and club will bring a championship approach to our gym and we are thrilled they are Tigers.”

Flickinger, a 5-9 outside hitter, will join the Tigers from Byron Nelson High School in Texas. She was just recently named First Team Under Armour All-America and will compete in the Under Armour All-America match on December 31.  She was ranked No. 66 PrepVolleyball Senior Ace and is a current Texas Player of the Year candidate. She has amassed over 2,000 kills and 2,000 digs in her high school career.

The three-year National Honor Society member was named Texas Gatorade Player of the Year and earned Texas Girls Coaches Association 5A-6A Player of the Year as junior. She led her high school to back-to-back district championships in 2018 and 2019 and is a two-time District 5-6A MVP, Texas 6A All-State selection, Max Preps High School All-American, PrepVolleyball Texas State Player of the Year, PrepVolleyball All-American and a TGCA All-State selection.

During the club season, she plays for Texas Advantage. She helped her team to national championships in 13’s, 15’s, and 17’s at USA Volleyball’s Girls Junior National Championships. She was the GJNC 15 Open MVP and was an all-tournament team selection for GJNC 17 Open. She will also join the Beach Volleyball program at LSU.

“Paige is a special athlete.  Not only is she an elite level athlete, she is an elite level volleyball player. She understands the game at a very high level. She can affect the outcome of a match from every aspect of play, whether through passing and defense or terminating plays. She is a leader who understands what it takes to succeed at the highest level.”

Maberry, a 6-1 outside hitter, will join the Tigers from The Woodlands High School in Texas. She has amassed over 2,000 career kills and has earned many accolades, including being recently named Third Team Under All-America and she is a current Texas Player of the Year Candidate. She was ranked No. 61 PrepVolleyball Senior Ace. 

In her high school career, she helped her team to four-straight district championships, the regional final in 2016, a third place finish in 2017 and a regional semi-final in 2018.

In 2018, Maberry earned TAVC 6A All-State, All-VYPE Offensive Player of the Year, PrepVolleyball High School All-American and District 15-6A Superlative as the Outstanding hitter. During the club season, Maberry plays for the Houston Skyline Juniors, helping them to a GJNC fifth place finish in 2019.

“Dylan is a physically imposing athlete who has experienced success on the highest level in high school and club.  She is a difference maker – someone who makes the big play in the big moment.  Her competitive drive will have an immediate impact in our program.”

Telford, a 6-3 middle blocker, will come to LSU from The Galloway School in Atlanta, Georgia. She helped her team qualify for state the past three years, including the first time in school history as a freshman. She is a two-time Coaches Award winner and earned MVP, All-Area and was a team caption in her junior season.

Off the court, Telford is a two-time scholar-athlete award recipient and is involved with FCA. Both of her parents attended LSU. She plays club volleyball for A5.

“Maddie brings an ability to play above the net and will add physicality to our gym.  She has great potential to transition to the collegiate level and be an asset to our program.  We look forward to the opportunity to train and develop her. “

Williams, a 6-1 middle blocker, comes to Baton Rouge from Kingwood Park High School in Texas. She helped her squad to back-to-back district championships in 2017 and 2018 and a state championship in 2018.

In her prep career, she has earned all-state, GHVCA Second Team, VYPE Second Team, First Team All-District, Second Team All-State, First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Area honors.

During the club season, she plays for Houston Juniors Volleyball Club and helped them to a third place finish in the 2017 Tour of Texas, a second place finish in the 2017 Lone Star Classic and a ninth place finish at GJNC in 2019.  

“Alia is a talented, young athlete with a natural ability in the sport.  She brings a wide skill set and will impact our program in many ways. Her offensive versatility will be a huge asset.  She has a great future in the sport and has just started to tap into her ability.”
