BATON ROUGE — LSU men’s golf signee John Peterson has been honored by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram for his outstanding play during his senior season as he was named the Golf Super Team Boys Player of the Year by the newspaper earlier this week.
Peterson, a senior at Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas, wrapped up his high school career by leading his team to a first-place tie at the University Interscholastic League Class 5A state tournament while earning a runner-up finish as an individual.
Peterson won six of the 11 tournaments in which he played during his senior season, while he finished the season with an impressive 70.5 scoring average. He also won individual district and regional championships in addition to his second-place finish at the state tournament.
Arguably the top-ranked player in the state of Texas for the Class of 2007, Peterson has gotten off to a fast start with his national junior golf schedule this summer has he has already earned a pair of top-10 finishes in tournaments sponsored by the prestigious American Junior Golf Association.
He opened with a fourth-place finish at the AJGA’s PING Junior at The Woodlands in April followed by his first career win on the AJGA circuit on June 7 by taking top honors at the Fidelity Investments Junior Championship in Humble, Texas, after firing an impressive 54-hole score of 10-under par 206 at Redstone Golf Club.
Peterson ? the nation’s 57th-ranked junior golfer regardless of class in the latest Polo Junior Golf Rankings ? has now earned six career top-10 finishes while competing as a member of the AJGA.
