LSU was forced to schedule Tuesday’s twin bill when the Tigers’ regularly-scheduled game with Southern was rained out last Wednesday.

Fans will have the opportunity to see two games for the price of one on Tuesday with either an LSU-Southern ticket or an LSU-Nicholls State ticket. Fans may present an LSU-Southern ticket at the stadium and receive a free LSU-Nicholls State ticket, or they may present an LSU-Nicholls State ticket and receive a free LSU-Southern ticket.

Tickets are available online at www.LSUsports.net or by contacting the LSU Athletics Ticket Office at 225.578.2184 or 800.960.8587. Tickets may also be purchased at the Alex Box Stadium box office beginning at Noon Tuesday.

The games will be broadcast on the affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network. The Baton Rouge affiliate for the LSU-Southern game will be WYPY-FM 100.7, and the Baton Rouge affiliate for the LSU-Nicholls State contest will be WDGL-FM 98.1.

The audio broadcasts and streaming video of both games are available in the Geaux Zone at www.LSUsports.net. Live stats are also available at www.LSUsports.net.

Both games will be televised regionally by Cox Sports Television.

Tuesday’s games represent the final non-conference regular-season games for LSU. The Tigers resume SEC play this weekend with a three-game series at No. 3 Arkansas.

“This week presents a tremendous challenge for us with five games, including two in one day,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “All of these games are very important for us as we head into the final stretch of the season. We will need the maximum effort from our team in order to have success in these games, beginning Tuesday against a very good Southern team.”

Mainieri said junior left-hander Charlie Furbush (3-6, 5.32 ERA) will start Tuesday’s game versus Southern, and senior left-hander Clay Dirks (2-1, 9.00 ERA) is LSU’s probable starter for the contest with Nicholls State.

Dirks and three of his teammates ? outfielder Steven Broschofsky, outfielder Steven Waguespack and pitcher Jonathan Wilhite ? will be honored prior to the Nicholls State game as part of LSU’s Senior Night ceremonies.

Southern coach Roger Cador will counter with senior right-hander Antonio Garth (3-2, 3.86) in Tuesday’s first game, and Nicholls State coach Chip Durham will send senior left-hander Brian Sparks to the mound in the second game.

LSU dropped two of three SEC games last weekend to Tennessee; however, several Tigers enjoyed a productive series.

LSU ace Jared Bradford turned in another exceptional performance Saturday, as he fired a complete game in a 4-2 victory over Tennessee in Alex Box Stadium. Bradford, a junior right-hander from Hueytown, Ala., limited the Vols to two runs on nine hits with no walks and eight strikeouts as he recorded his first complete game in an LSU uniform. Bradford is 5-1 in SEC outings with three saves ? he has either a win or a save in eight of LSU’s nine league victories this season.

Freshman designated hitter Blake Dean launched two homers and drove in five runs in the Tennessee series. Dean was 3-for-9 at the plate against the Vols and he scored three runs.

Junior shortstop Michael Hollander batted .417 (5-for-12) in the Tennessee series with three runs scored. Freshman first baseman/catcher Sean Ochinko hit .364 (4-for-11) against the Vols with one double, one homer, two runs and two RBI. The home run on Sunday was the first for Ochinko since March 17 at South Carolina. Ochinko and Dean lead the Tigers with six homers apiece.

Freshman centerfielder Jared Mitchell hit his second homer of the year Sunday against Tennessee ? the dinger was Mitchell’s first since February 24 versus Central Florida.

LSU received solid relief outings last weekend from a pair of sophomore right-handers ? Louis Coleman and Nolan Cain. Coleman blanked Tennessee on Friday in 4.2 innings, allowing just three hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Cain fired three shutout innings over two appearances in the series, limiting the Vols to three hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

The Tigers hold a 40-2 series advantage over Southern, including a 3-2 victory over the Jaguars last season in Alex Box Stadium. Southern’s wins over LSU have both come in this decade in Alex Box Stadium ? the Jaguars defeated the Tigers in 2001 (11-6) and in 2005 (9-5).

LSU leads the series with Nicholls State, 42-21, and the Tigers have won 15 straight games against the Colonels. Nicholls State last defeated LSU in 1994, posting a 3-2 win in Thibodaux.

The teams last met in 2005, when LSU swept a three-game series from the Colonels to open the season and later recorded a 3-2 victory at NSU’s Ray Didier Field.
