LSU No. 19 in Latest Director’s Cup Standings

BATON ROUGE — LSU moved up one spot to No. 19 in the nation with a total of 450.75 points in the latest U.S. Sports Academy Director’s Cup Standings.

The 450.75 points puts the Tigers third among Southeastern Conference teams and first among those school’s that compete in the SEC Western Division. Stanford is currently No. 1 in the standings with 837.5 points followed by Wisconsin with 753.5 points.

Tennessee is highest rated SEC team in the standings with 605.75 points, followed by Florida with 603 points. Other SEC teams in the top 25 include Auburn at No. 20 with 445.5 points and Kentucky at No. 23 with 388 points.

LSU’s most recent points came from the women’s basketball team as the Lady Tigers picked up 83 points for its third place national finish.

LSU’s highest point total from a particular sport thus far has come from the women’s track team as the Lady Tigers accumulated 90 points for their second place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships in February.

Other point totals for LSU had the football team with 85 points for its third place national finish; men’s indoor track and field with 65.25 points for its 10th place finish; women’s swimming and diving with 56.15 points for a 17th place national finish; men’s swimming and diving with 46 points for finishing 28th nationally; and volleyball with 25 points for advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

Last year, LSU finished the year ranked No. 20 in the nation in Director’s Cup with a total of 675.125 points.

The U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Ala., is the program’s sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports ? 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
