BATON ROUGE — LSU swept the NCAA Gymnastics Central Region coaching awards as D-D Breaux was named the coach of the year and Bob Moore was named the assistant coach of the year on Monday.
The honor is the fourth of Breaux’s career and the second for Moore. Both were last recognized during the 2005 season.
To date, Breaux has guided her Tigers to a No. 5 national ranking, a berth at the NCAA Championships and a 17-10 overall record, a slate that saw seven of the Tigers’ 10 losses come to teams ranked in the top four in the country. In addition, Breaux’s Tigers have posted five scores of 196.800 or better this season, including three marks above the 197.000 plateau.
Individually, Breaux has tutored three of her athletes to top-25 national all-around rankings, including junior Ashleigh Clare-Kearney who finished the regular season listed at Mo. 1.
Moore was recognized for his work with the team on the vault and floor, the Tigers’ two strongest events this season. LSU was ranked No. 1 in the nation on the vault for two weeks during the year and finished the regular season listed at No. 2 nationally on both the vault and floor.
Under Moore’s tutelage the Tigers have posted three of the top-10 vault scores in school history as well as the 10th-best floor mark in program history this season.
Individually, Moore guided Clare-Kearney and sophomore Lauren Klein to All-SEC performances on the vault and floor, respectively. He also tutored three of the six athletes in both his vault and floor lineups to top-25 national rankings, including Clare-Kearney to the No. 1 ranking on the vault.
The Tigers close out the 2007 season next week when they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the NCAA Championships, April 26-28.
