CLEVELAND — Sylvia Fowles, a junior center on the LSU women’s basketball team, was named one of 10 Kodak All-Americans on Saturday morning, it was announced at a press conference by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Eastman Kodak Company announced.
Fowles is the sixth different LSU player to receive the prestigious honor and follows in the footsteps of three-time Kodak All-American Seimone Augustus who earned the honor each of the last three years.
Fowles, a native of Miami, Fla., led the Lady Tigers to the program’s fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Final Four. She averaged 17.2 points and 12.7 rebounds per game this season and was named as the Fresno Regional Most Outstanding Player after posting 21.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in LSU’s regional wins over Florida State and Connecticut.
“This is a great honor for me,” Fowles said. “I would like to thank by teammates and my coaches because I know without them I would not be in a position to be honored like this.”
This honor is added to Fowles list that already includes first-team All-America honors by the United States Basketball Writers Association and the John R. Wooden Award as well as a second-team Associated Press All-America selection.
“Throughout the 2006-2007 season, these ten players have been a pleasure to watch and have proven themselves to be deserving of this honor,” said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. “The growth of our game is in the hands of many of these young student-athletes and we look forward to watching their future in women’s basketball continue to unfold.”
Fowles was joined on the team by fellow Southeastern Conference foes Candace Parker from Tennessee and Armintie Price from Ole Miss. Parker also received the State Farm Wade Trophy as the national top player.
