ST. LOUIS — Sylvia Fowles keeps collecting post season honors. This time the junior center for the LSU women’s basketball team was named to the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-American team, it was announced by the organization on Friday.
Fowles, who was a first-team All-Southeastern Conference performer, has averaged 17.2 points and 12.7 rebounds this season and shot 58.0 percent from the field.
The USBWA honor for Fowles is in addition to first-team All-America accolades by ESPN.com and the John R. Wooden Award.
The Miami, Fla., native was also named the Fresno Regional Most Outstand Player after a two-game average of 21.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in Fresno, including a 23-point, 15 rebound and six blocked shots performance in the victory over Connecticut in the regional final.
Fowles, who helped guide the Lady Tigers to a fourth straight NCAA Final Four appearance, collected 26 double doubles in 37 games this season and averaged 8.3 points and 13.7 rebounds in 11 games against top 25 opponents, including four 20-plus point games.
