BATON ROUGE — The accolades for Sylvia Fowles keep coming. This time, the 6-6 junior center from the LSU women’s basketball team was named first-team All-American by ESPN.com.
Fowles, who was named a John R. Wooden Award All-American and a second-team Associated Press All-American on Wednesday, is one of five named by the television networks’ website.
Entering the 2007 NCAA Women’s Final Four, Fowles is averaging 17.2 points and 12.7 rebounds per game, including 18.0 points and 11.8 boards in LSU’s four NCAA Tournament games.
The Miami, Fla., native was named the Fresno Regional Most Outstanding Player and posted an average 21.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in the wins over Florida State and Connecticut to lead the Lady Tigers to a fourth straight Final Four appearance.
Fowles, who was a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection, is joined on the ESPN.com All-American team by fellow SEC players Candace Parker from Tennessee and Ole Miss’ Armintie Price. Oklahoma’s Courtney Paris and Duke’s Lindsey Harding completed the list.
Harding was tabbed as the Player of the Year.
Fowles and the Lady Tigers depart for Cleveland on Thursday in preparation for Sunday’s national semifinal game against Rutgers at 6 p.m. CDT in Quicken Loans Arena.
