Track & Field’s Fox Earns Academic Honor

BATON ROUGE — Senior Rabun Fox has epitomized the term “student-athlete” throughout his four-year career at LSU, and he added yet another honor to his impressive resume on Thursday as he was named an ESPN The Magazine Third-Team Academic All-American.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team for men’s and women’s track and field is published each year by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Fox gained eligibility for this year’s Academic All-America Team following his selection for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI First-Team released on June 4. In his four years at LSU, Fox has posted a 3.73 cumulative grade-point average while studying kinesiology.

The Houma, La., native is LSU’s male nominee for the 2009 SEC McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award that is set to be released later this summer.

Fox has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in each of the last four years while proving to be one of the team’s top performers in the classroom. He also wrapped up his collegiate career this spring as one of the premier hammer throwers to ever wear the LSU uniform after competing in the event at the NCAA Championships in each of the last two seasons.

He leaves LSU ranked No. 4 on the school’s all-time performance list in the hammer throw with a career-best mark of 215 feet, 11 inches. Fox earned All-SEC honors in the event in 2006 with a runner-up finish at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
