BATON ROUGE — Trena Peel and LaDonia Hughes, a pair of former LSU softball All-Americans, entered their sixth professional seasons in the National Pro Fastpitch League this week.
Peel heads into her third season with the Philadelphia Force, while Hughes is a member of the USSSA Pride, formally the Washington Glory, now based out of Kissimmee, Fla. for her third season.
“LSU softball is extremely proud of Trena and LaDonia,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “Both of these women were a major part of SEC Championship teams and represented the Tigers on college softball’s biggest stage at the Women’s College World Series.”
Peel served as the Force’s primary power source with a .262 batting average to go along with eight home runs and 20 RBIs last season. Her eight homers were tied for ninth in the NPF. Philadelphia finished the 2008 regular season in second place, one game behind the Chicago Bandits.
Hughes was second on the team and 15th in the NPF with a .280 batting average. After finishing in third place during the regular season, the Glory made a run to the 2008 NPF Championship game before falling to the Chicago Bandits.
