Isom Invited to U-23 US Soccer Training Camp

BATON ROUGE — On the strength of her performance during an outstanding freshman season in 2008, LSU goalkeeper Mo Isom has been invited by head coach Bill Irwin to train with the Under 23 U.S. Women’s National Team at the Premier Soccer Academies in Cleveland, Ohio, from June 12-19.

Isom is one of 24 players who have been invited to the camp to select an 18-player roster that will travel to England in July for a pair of U-23 matches against the English National Team.

The training camp will feature only collegiate players as the squad will play two matches with the Cleveland Internationals of the United Soccer Leagues W-League.

“Being called up to train with the national team is such a great honor, and it’s a giant leap toward a goal I set for myself so many years back,” Isom said. “After training with the coaches and players at LSU over the past year, I feel more than prepared to step into camp and play at my best with some of the premier players in the country. I’m truly humbled to have this opportunity.”

Isom established herself as one of the top young goalkeepers in all of college soccer with her play as a freshman in 2008. She earned Freshman All-America honors from Soccer Buzz and was also a member of the SEC All-Freshman Team in leading the Tigers’ defensive unit.

She posted a single-season school record 0.82 goals against average to rank No. 2 among keepers in the Southeastern Conference this past fall. Her seven shutouts also ranked No. 2 in the league.

With her performance, LSU was able to successfully defend its SEC Western Division crown and earn its second-straight at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament with a 14-4-2 overall mark and 7-3-1 record in SEC play. The Tigers finished No. 2 in the final SEC standings with 22 points.

“We’re very proud of Mo for everything that she has been able to accomplish this season, and we know that she will represent LSU very well over the next week in Cleveland,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “She has the potential to become one of the very best goalkeepers in the country and this opportunity to train with the U-23s is another giant step in her development.”
