BATON ROUGE — Third-ranked LSU and No. 9 Florida meet in a pivotal Southeastern Conference baseball series during “Fan Appreciation Weekend” in Alex Box Stadium.
The series begins at 7 p.m. Friday, with Game 2 set for 7 p.m. Saturday and Game 3 starting at noon Sunday.
LSU and Florida are tied with Ole Miss for first place in the overall Southeastern Conference race with just six games remaining in league play. LSU is seeking its first SEC regular-season title since 2003.
The weekend will feature several special events and promotions designed to thank LSU fans for their unwavering support throughout the 2009 season.
“We have the greatest college baseball fans in the country,” said LSU director of athletics Joe Alleva, “and we want to acknowledge their outstanding support by offering them a unique weekend filled with events and discounts they will really enjoy. Our fans have made the first season in the new Alex Box Stadium a tremendous success, and we want to make sure they know how much our players and coaches appreciate it.”
Entering Friday’s game, LSU has a paid attendance figure this season of 312,676 over 33 games, an average of 9,475 per contest. LSU will surpass this weekend its school record for paid attendance, which is 318,798 set last season over 42 games.
Following are the special events and promotions that will be featured during “Fan Appreciation Weekend” in Alex Box Stadium:
Friday, May 8 ? 7 p.m. game time
- First 5,000 fans to make a purchase at the concession stands will receive a free box of Cracker Jacks
- Set #1 of the 2009 LSU Baseball Trading Cards will be available for the first 2,500 fans
- Special Todd Walker recognition in honor of his recent election to the College Baseball Hall of Fame
- The LSU SportShop will conduct a clearance sale of Tiger merchandise on the ground level of the stadium, 3rd base side.
Saturday, May 9 ? 7 p.m. game time
- 2 for 1 hot dogs at the Alex Box Stadium concession stands
- Set #2 of the 2009 LSU Baseball Trading Cards will be available for the first 2,500 fans
- Special pregame recognition honoring season ticket holders who have had exemplary attendance
- Ceremonial first pitch by Pee Wee Moss, LSU’s 1948 and 1949 NCAA Boxing National Champion
- The LSU SportShop will conduct a clearance sale of Tiger merchandise on the ground level of the stadium, 3rd base side.
Sunday, May 10 ? Noon game time
- First 5,000 fans to make a purchase at the concession stands will receive a free small popcorn
- Set #3 of the 2009 LSU Baseball Trading Cards will be available for the first 2,500 fans
- 2009 LSU Baseball Senior Pregame Recognition (starting at approx. 11:40 a.m.)
- Kids, and their Moms, get to run the bases following the game, presented by the Super Chevy Dealers
- The LSU SportShop will conduct a clearance sale of Tiger merchandise on the ground level of the stadium, 3rd base side.
