BATON ROUGE — The LSU volleyball team concluded its spring season on a strong note Saturday winning seven of eight sets at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The Tigers blanked Southern and split sets with Tulane in the morning session before sweeping Southern Miss and Southeastern Louisiana during the afternoon.

Overall, the four-time defending SEC Western Division champions won 19 of its 25 sets played during the spring season.

“We did some really good individual things and got a lot of things accomplished during this spring season,” head coach Fran Flory said. “Offensively, we’ve expanded the sets that our players can hit. The players also responded very favorably to adjusting the tempo of our offense.”

LSU finished the 2008 season with an 18-10 record and made its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance under Flory. Seven of the Tigers eight returning letterwinners for the 2009 season appeared in at least 20 matches last season.

Middle blocker Brittnee Cooper is scheduled to join the 2009 U.S. Women’s National A2 program for training from May 18-22 in Minneapolis.
