BATON ROUGE — Former LSU guard and National Player of the Year Seimone Augustus added to her list of professional basketball honors when she was named EuroCup Player of the Year by the overseas league on Wednesday.

For the season, Augustus averaged 20 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Her finest performance came in the EuroCup Semifinals when Augustus and her Galatasaray team were on the brink of elimination.

Needing to overcome a 14-point deficit courtesy of a 61-47 loss in game one against Russian club Dynamo Kursk, Augustus and her squad used a 40-11 second-half outburst to claim a 62-39 win.

Augustus nearly outscored the Russian club by herself, collecting 38 points on 17-for-22 shooting with four rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block in nearly 38 minutes of action. That win paved the way for Augustus and Galatasaray to capture its first EuroCup crown.

Augustus tallied 23 points, six rebounds and seven assists in the second game of the EuroCup final en route to the title. The WNBA’s active leading per-game scorer, Augustus was also named Guard of the Year and Import Player of the Year.

Augustus begins her fourth WNBA season in June when she returns to the Minnesota Lynx. She has averaged 21.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists for her entire WBNA career.

Augustus is LSU’s only three-time State Farm All-American having earned the honors as part of the Lady Tigers’ Final Four appearances in 2004, 2005 and 2006. She was twice named National Player of Year and finished her career as LSU’s second all-time leading scorer with 2,702 points.

Augustus was a member of the United States’ gold medal Olympic team in Beijing last summer.
