BATON ROUGE — For the sixth consecutive year the LSU gymnastics program ranked among the nation’s top 10 in home attendance figures as LSU finished sixth this season, GymInfo released Tuesday.

The rankings were based on average home attendance for the season, and LSU averaged 3,732 fans per meet, placing LSU sixth overall for the second straight year.

This season’s total marked LSU’s highest average, surpassing last season’s average of 3,336 fans.

“Attendance and fan support is a huge factor,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. “Daniel Nunes, our marketing coordinator, has done a remarkable job in his tireless effort to market and promote what I think is a great product. I am excited that Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas are coming out to support us more and more.”

Highlighting this season’s home attendance totals was the Second Annual Etta James Memorial Meet against North Carolina State on March 7 when 6,170 fans came out to support LSU and Foundation56’s fight against breast cancer. The crowd was the second largest in team history, trailing only last season’s inaugural Etta James Memorial Meet which brought in 7,717 fans.

The season-opening crowd of 4,369 fans who watched LSU take on Georgia on Jan. 16 was the fourth-largest crowd in team history.

LSU’s attendance figures have grown over the past four seasons, from an average of 2,510 fans in 2006 to this season’s total of 3,732 ? a difference of more than 1,200 people.

The 2009 season marked one of LSU’s greatest as the Tigers advanced to the program’s second straight Super Six, and senior Ashleigh Clare-Kearney earned individual national titles on vault and floor to set a school record with two titles.
