Volleyball Has Successful Day at SEC Beach Championships

SIESTA KEY, Fla. — The LSU volleyball team compiled a 15-9 set record Saturday at the second annual SEC Beach Championships on the sands of Siesta Key.

“It was an excellent event and a great experience for our team,” assistant coach Steve Loeswick said. “What we were able to accomplish on the sand will no doubt be beneficial to our indoor game going forward.”

Sam Dabbs and Brittney Johnson rolled through morning pool play and reeled off a trio of two-set sweeps against pairs from Kentucky, Mississippi State and Alabama.

In the silver division playoffs, Dabbs and Johnson racked up an impressive 21-9 victory over Florida’s Cassandra Anderson and Elissa Hausmann in the first round before dropping a tight 21-15 quarterfinal battle to Megan Laughlin and Lindsey Roy of South Carolina.

Marina Skender and Michelle Williams split their eight sets and earned a ninth place finish in gold bracket play. Brittnee Cooper, Tania Schatow and Lauren Waclawczyk also won four of its sixth pool play sets before falling in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Tigers conclude the spring season Saturday with the LSU Tournament. All matches will be played at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
