BATON ROUGE — The 31st-ranked LSU men’s tennis team will be the eighth seed in the Southeastern Conference Tournament hosted by Auburn on April 23-26, the league office announced Sunday.
LSU (9-10) completed regular season competition with a 3-7 SEC record and will face ninth-seeded South Carolina in an 11 a.m. CDT match to kick off tournament competition.
The Tigers defeated the Gamecocks earlier this year in Columbia, S.C. with a 5-1 win for their last conference competition on the road.
Should LSU defeat South Carolina, the Tigers would face top-seeded Ole Miss in the second round. The last meeting between the two was in Baton Rouge on April 10. LSU took the early doubles point, but Ole Miss’ singles lineup proved too much and the Rebels took the match, 5-2.
The match between 12th-seeded Vanderbilt and fifth-seeded Alabama will commence at 11 a.m. as well.
Following morning matchups, 11th-seeded Arkansas will face the No. 6 seed Kentucky and
10th-seeded Mississippi State will square off against seventh-seeded Auburn, each in a 3 p.m. match, to complete the first round.
No. 1 seed Ole Miss, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Tennessee and No. 4 Florida received first-round byes.
The championship match is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 26.
Last year, LSU blanked Mississippi State in first round by a 4-0 mark before falling to top-10 opponent and No. 3 seed Tennessee in the second round, 4-2.
