BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — After hitting safely in all four of LSU’s games last week, Juliana Santos picked up SEC Softball Freshman of the Week honors Monday as announced by the league office. It’s the first career weekly award for Santos.
Santos batted .429 for the week and tied for the team-lead with four RBIs. She also scored five runs and has crossed the plate in 19 of her last 23 games.
The California native was called upon to pinch hit in the seventh inning with the Tigers down 1-0 at Nicholls. Not in the starting lineup due to an injured toe, Santos belted the game-tying triple into the right centerfield gap and came around to score the game-winning run on the next batter.
LSU (25-10-1, 10-6-1 SEC) concluded the week by taking two of three games at Arkansas to strengthen its grasp of second place in the SEC Western Division. She provided a pair of multi-hit games against the Razorbacks, including a two-run single in the second inning to break open the rubber game of the series.
LSU opens a stretch of eight of its next nine games at home with a Wednesday doubleheader against Southeastern Louisiana slated to begin at 4 p.m.
Both games will be broadcast live on The X 104.5 and 104.9 FM in the Baton Rouge area with Patrick Wright calling all of the action. Live video and live stats also will be available on LSUSports.net.
