BATON ROUGE — LSU’s women’s basketball program, three-time NCAA Final Four participants and back-to-back Southeastern Conference champions, led the nation in average road attendance in 2005-06.
According to figures compiled by womensbasketballonline.com, LSU ranked first with an average road attendance of 7,083 per game. The Lady Tigers played 10 road games and 10 neutral site games last season and drew 141,652 fans in those 20 games.
LSU played in front of seven crowds of over 8,000 fans away from the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, including 19,576 at Tennessee, 15,105 at UConn, 14,641 at Texas Tech and 18,642 in the national semifinal game in Boston.
Overall LSU averaged 6,735 fans in 35 games and ranked 14th in the nation in average home attendance with 6,273 fans per game in the PMAC.
LSU and head coach Pokey Chatman return eight players from last season’s team that posted a 31-4 record, advanced to the NCAA Final Four and won the SEC regular season title. Along with the eight returnees, the Lady Tigers will add transfers Katie Antony and Mesha Williams and high school All-Americans Allison Hightower and Porsha Phillips.
