Augustus Nominated for Best Female College Athlete ESPY

NEW YORK — Former LSU star Seimone Augustus, the 2005-06 National Player of the Year in women’s basketball, was nominated for the ESPY Award for and Best Female College Athlete, it was announced by ESPN on Monday.

Fans can vote by going to the ESPY’s website at www.espys.tv.

Augustus led LSU to a 31-4 overall record this past season as a senior. The Lady Tigers earned a second consecutive Southeastern Conference regular season title and a third straight trip to the NCAA Final Four.

The Baton Rouge native was the National Player of the Year for the second time in as many seasons, receiving the Wade Trophy, the Naismith Trophy, the John R. Wooden Award and the Associated Press Player of the Year honors. Augustus led the nation in scoring, averaging 22.7 points per game.

Joining Augustus on the ballot for Best Female College Athlete are Washington’s Courtney Thompson (volleyball), Southern Cal’s Virginia Powell (track & field), Portland’s Christine Sinclair (soccer) and Texas’ Cat Osterman (softball)

“It is a great honor to be nominated for an ESPY again,” Augustus said. “It’s nice to just be mentioned with so many other outstanding athletes. Taking part in the ESPY Awards show last year was one of the highlights by life.”

Augustus was nominated for both the Best Female College Athlete and the Best Female Athlete last year.

The voting opens on June 26 and fans can vote up until July 9. The ESPY winners will be announced during the taping of the show in Los Angeles on July 12. The ESPY Award show will air on July 16 at 8 p.m. CDT on ESPN.
