INDIANAPOLIS — Former LSU standout Derrick Brew advanced to the semifinals in the 400 meters Thursday as action from the AT&T USA Track and Field Championships got underway at Michael A. Carroll Track Stadium.

Brew finished his preliminary round heat in 45.28 seconds to place third in his heat and ninth overall. The semifinals are scheduled for tomorrow evening.

Brew and the rest of the quartermile field were just a few of the lucky athletes to get their first-day races completed as action was suspended part way through the competition because of inclement weather.

Other former Tigers and Lady Tigers scheduled to run were Kelly Willie in the men’s 100 meters and Muna Lee and Stephanie Durst in the women’s 100 meters.

Because of the rain out, all three rounds of the men’s and women’s 100 meters will be contested Friday. Originally, first round heats were to be run today and the semifinals and finals were scheduled for Friday.

Weather permitting, action from the USA Championships will resume tomorrow at 9:45 a.m.
