BATON ROUGE — Left-hander Blake Martin, who pitched at Birmingham-Southern the past two seasons, has transferred to LSU and will be eligible to compete for the Tigers in 2007.
Martin, a 6-3, 186-pound native of Boaz, Ala., is scheduled to enroll at LSU in August and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Martin appeared in 11 games (nine starts) for Birmingham-Southern in 2006, posting a 4-1 record and a 3.57 ERA in 53 innings with 37 walks and 57 strikeouts. He limited opponents to a .218 batting average, allowing 39 hits in 179 at-bats.
As a freshman in 2005, Martin appeared in 17 games (three starts), recording a 3-1 mark and a 3.25 ERA in 36 innings with 10 walks and 36 strikeouts.
An all-state performer at Boaz High School, Martin fired 160 strikeouts in 76.1 innings as a senior, completing the year with an 8-3 record and a 0.46 ERA.
