MINNEAPOLIS — Seimone Augustus, the most decorated women’s basketball player in LSU history, makes her WNBA debut Tuesday at 7 p.m. CDT on ESPN2.

Augustus, the first pick of the 2006 WNBA draft by the Minnesota Lynx, is expected to start the season-opening game against defending Eastern Conference Champions Connecticut Sun at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

“We have a great team here,” Augustus said on the Lynx website. “We have great post players inside and great perimeter players. Hopefully we can put those two components together to make a great team and just go out and compete every night.”

Minnesota begins its eighth season as a WNBA franchise. The league is celebrating its 10th year.

Augustus finished her LSU career second on the career scoring list and as the two-time National Player of the Year.

Fellow former Lady Tigers have enjoyed success to open the 2006 WNBA season.

Temeka Johnson, the 2005 WNBA Rookie of the Year, started at point guard for the Los Angeles Sparks and posted four points and a game-high 11 assists. Sparks teammate Doneeka Hodges added 10 points in a losing effort.

Scholanda Hoston, the first-round selection by Sacramento in April, started for the Monarchs and scored 10 points in a victory for the defending WNBA champions.

Elaine Powell started for the expansion Chicago Sky and posted three points, three assists and two rebounds in a win.
