BATON ROUGE — After spending the last two weeks on the road, the LSU track and field team will return to the friendly confines of the Bernie Moore Track Complex to host the Alumni Gold meet on Saturday.
The meet will feature competition from across the nation including Navy, Houston and Texas A&M as well as conference opponent Ole Miss.
“We always attract some really nice competition to this meet,” said LSU track and field head coach Dennis Shaver. “Because of the time of the year it is and because of the type of meet LSU can put on.”
Saturday’s events will be the next to last chance for several of LSU’s athletes to qualify for the regional meet. After next week’s invitational Penn Relays, the team will be traveling to Fayetteville for the SEC championships.
“The main purpose of this meet is to add to our number of scoring opportunities at the regional championship,” said Shaver. “People who have already qualified to go maybe qualifying in an additional event that they might run and those who haven’t yet qualified for the regional meet get another opportunity.”
The meet will also feature several prominent alumni from LSU’s past including Lolo Jones and John Moffitt.
One of the events scheduled for the day will be a special ceremony to recognize a group of 15 graduating seniors making their last appearance at the Bernie Moore track.
Being honored Saturday will be Megan Akre, Sarah Colosimo, Jackie Dove, Megan Duet, Michelle Hymel, Megan Kliebert, Edwin Billot, B.J. Brooks, Patrick Gavin, Andrew Huston, Roland LeBlanc, Pat Perrien, Darion Powell, Paul Thompson and Kelly Willie.
Field events begin at 9:30 a.m. while running events are listed to start at 1:30 p.m. The senior ceremony is tentatively scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Admission to the event will be $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
