TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The 16th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team will open a three-match SEC road trip Friday against Alabama at 5 p.m.
The Tigers are riding the wave of a six match-winning streak and control their own destiny in the SEC West race. LSU head coach Jeff Brown said his team is excited to keep the run going.
“We’re in a good rhythm right now and, we just want to get out there and play tennis,” said Brown. “Alabama is as good as anybody else in the league. They’re going to give us a good challenge Friday.”
The Crimson Tide (9-10, 2-6 SEC) come into the match coming off a three straight road losses to South Carolina, Florida and top-ranked Georgia.
One of the biggest reasons for LSU recent success has been its continued dominance in doubles play. The Tigers feature a pair of ranked doubles teams and have won the doubles point in each of their last seven matches.
LSU has also shown improvements in its singles play. The Tigers’ top two singles players, Ken Skupski and Colt Gaston, rank 21st and 100th in the nation respectively. Team captain Danny Bryan has won four consecutive singles matches.
Bryan and Gaston are also the SEC’s last two men’s tennis Player of the Week winners.
LSU will follow up Friday’s contest with a match at Auburn on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Tigers will finish up their regular season schedule at Arkansas on April 15.
