BOSTON — Seimone Augustus and Scholanda Hoston, two of the seniors on LSU’s women’s basketball team, have been invited to the WNBA draft at the Hynes Convention Center here on Wednesday at Noon CDT.
Augustus, the two-time NCAA national player of the year, is expected to be one of the top picks in the 2006 draft. The Baton Rouge native led the nation in scoring this season and finished her LSU career with 2,702 points, 728 rebounds and 276 assists, while shooting over 54.0 percent from the floor during her 140 games. Augustus’ point total is second in LSU’s record book, while her 140 starts in the school record.
The Minnesota Lynx has the first pick of the WNBA draft, while Phoenix Mercury pick second and Charlotte, San Antonio and Los Angles round out the top five selections.
Hoston finished her LSU career with 1,225 points 230 steals, 219 assists and 120 3-point field goals. The Miami native is 15th on LSU’s career scoring list, fifth in career 3-point field goals and seventh in career steals.
The draft, which lasts three rounds, gets underway at Noon CST live on ESPN2.
