LSU leads the overall series with Grambling, 6-0, in a series that began in 2009. All six meetings between the teams have occurred in Baton Rouge. Last season, LSU posted a 14-11 win over Grambling on April 13.

LSU dropped three of four games last week, including two of three SEC contests to Texas A&M in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. LSU is 5-4 in the SEC, just two games behind SEC Western Division leaders Auburn and Arkansas with 21 league games remaining.

LSU will begin a three-game league series at Arkansas at 6:30 p.m. CT Friday in Baum Stadium.

“My goal is to keep our players positive and help them to realize that everyone in our league goes through setbacks,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “Our job is to keep trying to improve, keep trying to get better and find ways to win those tight ball games. We’re getting into the second half of this season, so we’ve got to keep our chins up and do what’s necessary to strengthen our team.”

Manieri said freshman right-hander Todd Peterson (1-1, 5.68 ERA) will make his second career start on the mound Tuesday. Peterson will likely have a very short outing, however, as Mainieri said he plans to use several pitchers Tuesday night in preparation for the series at Arkansas.

Senior shortstop Kramer Robertson led LSU at the plate in the Texas A&M series, collecting four hits, including two homers, one double and five RBI. Robertson was 3-for-4 at the plate in Friday’s win over the Aggies with one double, one homer, three RBI and two runs scored.

Junior Beau Jordan enjoyed a productive week as the Tigers’ designated hitter, batting .333 in four games. Jordan collected four hits, two RBI, two runs and three walks, and he posted a .467 on-base percentage.

Sophomore leftfielder Antoine Duplantis produced four hits in the Texas A&M series, driving in one run and scoring three times. Duplantis is LSU’s leading hitter in SEC games, batting .389 (14-for-36) with two doubles, one homer, 11 RBI, 10 runs and three stolen bases.

Grambling is hitting .233 as a team with 31 doubles, two triples, six homers and 54 steals in 74 attempts. GSU is led at the plate by senior infielder Wesley Drain, who is batting .302 with three doubles, one homer and 16 RBI. Senior infielder Daniel Barnett is batting .283 with six doubles, one homer and 16 RBI.
