TULSA, Okla. – Junior Jordan Daigle of the LSU men’s tennis team fell to 65th-ranked Uros Petronijevic, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-3, in the first round of the NCAA Singles Tournament Wednesday evening at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Over his two years with the Tigers, 44th-ranked Daigle has accumulated 25 singles wins, which includes nine wins over ranked players and one victory over a top-20 opponent.
The native of Lafayette, La., will now look toward the doubles portion of the tournament with partner Boris Arias beginning Thursday at 5:30 p.m. CT, and the No. 6 Tigers will face No. 25 Shawn Hadavi and Richard Pham of Columbia University.
“Jordan fought back in the first set to get the lead and had a couple points to extend his lead, “ head coach Jeff Brown said. “When those points went against him, his opponent’s level of play rose, and it was too much once he gained the momentum. He will regroup tonight and get ready to team up with Boris and see if they can improve on last year’s great performance.”
The two-time All-American Tiger tandem has collected a 15-10 overall record while Hadavi and Pham have recorded an overall record of 17-9, which includes three top-20 victories.
Daigle and Arias have taken two wins over the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the country this season, including victories over Austin Smith and Ben Wagland of Georgia and Gordan Watson and Diego Hidalgo of Florida.
The winner of the match will advance to face either Arkansas’ Giammarco Micolani and Mike Redlicki or Wake Forest’s Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim in the round of 16 on Friday.
