BATON ROUGE – For the 17th time in head coach Jeff Brown’s 19 seasons, the LSU men’s tennis team has been selected to compete in the NCAA Tournament, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
No. 36 LSU (14-11, 5-7 SEC) will face No. 26 Rice in the first round of the tournament at TCU’s Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center Friday, May 13 at 10 a.m. CT. Host and No. 4 overall seed TCU will take on Jackson State at 1 p.m.
Second-round competition will take place Saturday, May 14, at 1 p.m. between the winners of Friday’s matches, with that winner advancing to the NCAA Championships Round of 16. Tulsa will host the championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center May 20-24.
This marks LSU’s 31st NCAA Tournament appearance in school history with Brown leading the Tigers in 17 of those appearances. LSU ranks second in the SEC for the most tournament appearances behind Georgia’s 38. The Tigers are ranked eighth in all-time NCAA appearances.
In the NCAA first round, LSU will look to avenge a narrow 4-3 loss at the hands of Rice in Houston on Jan. 24.
During the championships, all matches will be stopped after the doubles point is decided. All remaining individual matches will be stopped once a team winner (four points won) has been determined. The score will only reflect completed matches.
