BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU baseball fans are encouraged to wear gold to this weekend’s games versus Mississippi State in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
The Tigers will wear gold jerseys for all three games of the series as a tribute to LSU’s 1996 national championship team, which is celebrating its 20-year reunion this weekend. The 1996 team wore gold jerseys during its drive to the College World Series title.
“The tremendous history of LSU Baseball offers a lot of inspiration to our players,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “We’re wearing gold this weekend to honor the remarkable 1996 team and to inspire our players to perform at a championship level. Our 2008 team, which had a 23-game winning streak down the stretch, drew inspiration from the ’96 team during that streak, and I see a lot of similarities between this team and our 2008 team.”
Game 1 of the LSU-Mississippi State series starts at 7 p.m. Friday; Game 2 begins at 6 p.m. Saturday; and first pitch for Game 3 is set for 12 p.m. Sunday.
