Notes on the Tigers
LSU is ranked No. 14 this week in the USA Today coaches poll after posting a 2-2 mark in its four games last week … LSU posted a 2-1 SEC series victory at Auburn, marking the Tigers’ 16th series win in their last 20 SEC series on the road … junior catcher Jordan Romero led LSU to the series victory at Auburn, batting .333 (4-for-12) with two doubles, two homers and seven RBI … Romero blasted a pivotal three-run homer in the seventh inning on Sunday, increasing LSU’s lead from 6-5 to 9-5 … he also launched a solo homer and an RBI double on Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader, and he provided a two-run double in Game 1 … Romero hit .333 (5-for-15) for the entire four-game week as he collected a single in the Tigers’ game Tuesday with Tulane … Romero leads LSU in home runs this season with five, and he is batting .327 on the year with four doubles, 18 RBI and nine runs; he also has a team-best .692 slugging percentage … sophomore leftfielder Beau Jordan batted .400 (4-for-8) in the Auburn series with one homer, two RBI, and one run scored … junior second baseman Cole Freeman hit .444 (4-for-9) against Auburn with one RBI, two steals and four runs scored … freshman third baseman Chris Reid hit .364 (4-for-11) at Auburn with one triple, two RBI and two runs … as a team, LSU hit .306 (33-for-108) in the series, collecting 23 runs, three doubles, one triple and four homers … the Tigers accumulated five steals in seven attempts, struck out just 13 times and played near-flawless defense, posting a .990 fielding percentage with just one error … junior right-hander Parker Bugg earned his first save of the season with a brilliant relief outing at Auburn on Sunday, clinching the series victory for LSU … Bugg blanked Auburn — which had the highest team batting average among SEC teams in league games – over 3.2 innings, allowing two hits with one walk and one strikeout … junior left-hander Jared Poche’ earned the win for the Tigers in Game 2 at Auburn with a magnificent effort – Poche’ limited the potent Auburn lineup to one run on five hits in 6.1 innings with four walks and six strikeouts … senior left-hander John Valek III picked up his first career SEC win on Sunday, holding Auburn to four earned runs on six hits in 5.1 innings with one walk and three strikeouts … LSU will celebrated this weekend the 25-year anniversary of its first national championship team … member of the team will be recognized prior to Saturday’s game versus Vanderbilt in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
