BATON ROUGE, La. – In the final home match of the season the No. 44 LSU Tigers took a 7-0 sweep against the University of New Orleans Sunday at the LSU Complex.
The Tiger victory came after a 4-3 loss to SEC opponent Georgia in the Sunday morning match. LSU saw tough competition out of courts 1-3 but with a close court one loss from Jordan Daigle, the team came up short.
In the doubles competition, LSU saw big wins from courts two and three with a 6-1 victory from Tam Trinh and Simon Freund over Karim Shokeir and Giacomo Adoncecchi and a win from Justin Butsch and Nikola Samardzic against UNO’s Gonzalo Garcia and Nicolas Kramer, 6-1.
Newcomers Nikola Samardzic and Cameron Andry got wins for the Tigers with Andry clinching on court six against Shokeir 6-3, 6-0. Samardzic took a 6-0, 6-4 win against Adoncecchi.
All three seniors got a chance to get wins in their final home match of their career. Korinek got the second singles win for his team over Kramer on court four, 6-3, 6-0. Senior Boris Arias appeared on court one for the first time this season and after battling in the first set to get a 7-6 (7-2) win, he then took charge in the second set to finish the match, 6-3.
Finishing the match, Trinh took a win against Luis Albuquerque. Trinh dominated the first set, 6-1, but fell in a second set tiebreaker, 6-7, to bring the match to a third set. Trinh got back to his first set rhythm, finishing his opponent 1-0 (10-0) in a third set tiebreaker.
In their next match up, the Tigers will head to Knoxville to take on the University of Tennessee Friday at 1 p.m.
