QUANTICO, Va. – LSU women’s basketball assistant coach Tony Perotti was one of 20 coaches to recently participate in a Marine Corps Recruiting Command Coaches Workshop as put on by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in Quantico, Virginia.
Throughout the four-day event, participants interacted with officer instructors and key leaders. The workshop also provided an in-depth understanding of the Marine Corps’ leadership traits, leadership principles and small unit leadership.
“There were so many great things that come from this event,” Perotti said. “You can see how easy it is for Marines to become entrenched with each other and the love they have for each other because what you go through is tough and the people you go through it with are your family.”
The participants gained a basic understanding of what the Marine Corps is and does. It showed the participants the many different aspects of the Marine Corps to return to their communities and share their experiences.
The workshop put the coaches into scenarios similar to those of a Marine Corps Lieutenant and the decisions that would be made while attending the Basic School, a six-month course that introduces Marine Officers to basic combat fundamentals. Then, the coaches would make decisions during highly chaotic situations and be given the tools of what it means to be a true leader.
