BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU junior centerfielder Andrew Stevenson was selected in the second round Monday night by the Washington Nationals in the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Stevenson, who was the 58th selection overall, earned First-Team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive team honors this season in helping lead the Tigers to a College World Series berth.
Stevenson’s LSU teammate, shortstop Alex Bregman, was the second overall pick Monday night by the Houston Astros.
The first and second rounds of the 2015 draft were completed Monday night. The draft continues at Noon CT Tuesday with Rounds 3-10 and concludes with Rounds 11-40 beginning at 11 a.m. CT Wednesday.
Stevenson, a product of Youngsville, La., is LSU’s leading hitter this season, batting .356 (84-for-236) with 11 doubles, five triples, one homer, 21 RBI, 53 runs and 26 stolen bases.
He is third in the Southeastern Conference in stolen bases, sixth in the league in batting average, sixth in base hits, sixth in triples and ninth in runs scored.
