BATON ROUGE, La. — Freshman sensation Mandi Orellana will represent the LSU sand volleyball team and her native country of Guatemala as she is set to compete in three different international tournaments over the summer.
Orellana travels to Honduras for the Central America Cup on June 10-15, followed by the World Cup in the Netherlands on June 25-July 5 and the Pan Am Games in Toronto from July 10-20.
“For her to have the opportunity to represent her country and play in really prestigious events is huge for her and her personal development,” says head coach Russell Brock. “We love it when our players play, but rarely do you have freshman play in tournaments like these. It’s exciting for her to experience intense competition at this age.”
“When we recruited her, we knew she was really talented and for her to be representing Guatemala and LSU, it’s a great opportunity for us to get a little exposure and have her represent us. We’re proud of her and look forward to rooting for her, and we hope she does well and continues to improve.”
Orellana played at the number one spot all season alongside her partner, Katie Lindelow, where the duo compiled a record of 19-9 in the regular season with marquee wins against No. 7 Georgia State, No. 3 FIU and No. 5 Florida State.
The two also helped earn the team’s first ever berth in the AVCA National Championships in Gulf Shores.
