LUBBOCK, Texas — LSU junior shortstop Alex Bregman has been named to the watch list for the 2015 Brooks Wallace Award.
The award recognizes the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented during the National College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions on June 29 in Lubbock.
Bregman, the 2013 Wallace Award winner as a freshman, is batting .327 this season with 14 doubles, three triples, eight homers, 34 RBI, 41 runs and 24 steals in 28 attempts. He has a .974 fielding percentage, having committed only six errors in 229 chances.
Bregman is No. 1 in the SEC in stolen bases, No. 3 in doubles, No. 3 in runs scored, No. 4 in total bases (98) and No. 6 in homers. He has reached base safely in 39 consecutive games
Several conferences have multiple players on the list, led by the SEC and Pac-12, each with five. The West Coast Conference has four players on the list. The ACC, Big South and Big West conferences each have three players on the list.
