Notes on the Tigers
LSU is ranked No. 1 this week in the five polls that were released Monday morning, marking the sixth week this season the Tigers are No. 1 in at least one poll … LSU was 3-0 in its games last week, including an SEC doubleheader sweep versus Georgia over the weekend (Game 3 of the LSU-Georgia series was rained out) … LSU has won 11 of its last 12 games and four in a row … senior catcher Kade Scivicque batted .667 (6-for-9) in three games last week with two doubles, one homer, five RBI, three runs, a .727 on-base percentage and a 1.222 slugging percentage … in the Tigers’ doubleheader sweep of Georgia on Saturday, Scivicque hit .714 (5-for-7) with one double, one homer, three RBI and two runs … Scivicque extended his current hitting streak to 23 games, the longest by an LSU player since 2013, when shortstop Alex Bregman also had a 23-game streak … Scivicque is batting .382 (40-for-98) during the 23-game streak with nine doubles, two homers and 21 RBI … Scivicque is the second-leading hitter in the SEC, batting .404 (55-for-136) on the year with 13 doubles, five homers, 32 RBI and 22 runs … he has thrown out 13 runners attempting to steal this season … junior centerfielder Andrew Stevenson hit .538 (7-for-13) in three games last week with two doubles, four runs and three stolen bases … junior rightfielder Mark Laird batted .455 (5-for-11) last week with one RBI, three runs and three steals … freshman right-hander Alex Lange returned to the mound Saturday with a win over Georgia, pitching for the first time since April 3 … Lange, who missed the April 10-12 Auburn series due to tightness in his arm, defeated UGA on Saturday by working six innings and limiting the Bulldogs to one run on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts … Lange improved to 7-0 on the year, and his cumulative ERA of 1.40 is the best in the Southeastern Conference … sophomore left-hander Jared Poche’ followed Lange’s outing with a brilliant performance in Game 2 of the doubleheader versus Georgia … Poche’ worked seven innings, allowing only one run on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts … Poche improved to 7-1 on the year and lowered his ERA to 2.90 … sophomore right-hander Hunter Newman delivered a tremendous relief outing for the second straight weekend, earning a save in Game 1 Saturday against Georgia … Newman worked the final three innings, allowing no runs on no hits with no walks and two strikeouts – Georgia’s only base runner against Newman reached on an error … sophomore right-hander Parker Bugg pitched two perfect innings in relief in Game 2 of the doubleheader versus UGA, recording two strikeouts.
