BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Swimming and diving’s Frank Greeff and gymnastics’ Rheagan Courville will serve as LSU’s nominees for the Southeastern Conference’s prestigious H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship, the league office announced Friday.
The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the SEC since 1986 to the league’s top male and female scholar-athletes.
A two-year team captain on the men’s swimming team, Greeff is a two-time NCAA Honorable Mention All-American who holds the school record in the 200 fly.
In addition, Greeff served as part of the 800 freestyle and 400-medley relay school-record teams, and he owns the second-fastest 200 IM time, third-fastest 200 free time and third-fastest 100 fly time in program history. Greeff also finished as a silver medalist in the 200 fly at the 2015 SEC Championships.
A senior from Uitenhage, Eastern Cape, South Africa, Greeff earned his bachelor’s degree in finance in August 2014, and he is currently pursuing a second degree in general business.
Ranked as one of the nation’s top all-around performers throughout her career, Courville is a two-time NCAA vault national champion, school-record 19-time All-American, school-record five-time SEC champion and 2013 SEC Gymnast of the Year.
A senior from Baton Rouge, Courville holds the school record with 26 all-around titles in her career, and she ranks third in program history with 95 total individual titles entering the NCAA Championships.
Courville, who has a 3.571 cumulative grade point average, will graduate in May with a degree in sport administration.
The SEC will name the 2015 recipients of the scholarship on April 30.
Each year, the SEC, in conjunction with AT&T, an SEC official sponsor, provides the league’s male and female McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship recipients with a $15,000 post-graduate scholarship. The 26 remaining male and female finalists for the award will also receive a $7,500 post-graduate scholarship.
The award recipients are chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 14 SEC institutions and are honored at the SEC Spring Meetings in Sandestin, Fla., in late May.
