BATON ROUGE – The LSU volleyball team will embark on a 12-day European Tour which includes stops in Croatia, Italy and Slovenia starting Friday. The Tigers will play seven matches while overseas.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to go on an international tour,” head coach Fran Flory said. “This young team will gain tremendous experience and have the chance to experience a very different style of play. We are very appreciative of our administration for allowing us to make the trip. It further illustrates the commitment of this administration to the well-being and experience of all of our LSU student-athletes. The experience we will gain through the seven matches we are scheduled to play can’t be duplicated. The scope of LSU Athletics reaches across the world. Our team will represent our athletics department and University well in this endeavor.”
LSU will begin the tour in Split, Croatia followed by a stop in Maribor, Slovenia. The Tigers will cap the trip with a trio of stops in Italy which include Milan, Pordenone and Venice.
At different times during the trip, players and coaches will check in with blog entries and photo galleries on LSUsports.net.
The Tigers will bring back eight letterwinners in 2013 highlighted by Desiree Elliott, a two-time All-SEC selection. LSU’s seven-year run atop the SEC Western Division came to a close last season. The streak was the second-longest in SEC history only behind Florida’s 14-year atop the SEC Eastern Division from 1995-2008.
